Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?+
No. IDPhoto is 100% client-side — your photo is processed entirely in your browser by a face-detection model and a background-removal model, both compiled to WebAssembly. The original photo, the face data, and the result never leave your device.
Does it work offline?+
Yes. The models download on first use and are then cached, so once they have loaded you can make ID photos with no internet connection. Install IDPhoto as a PWA and it opens and runs offline.
What does it cost?+
IDPhoto is free. There is no signup, no watermark, and no per-photo limit in this build. Everything happens on your own device, so there is no server cost to pass on.
Will my photo be accepted by the government?+
IDPhoto produces photos to the correct official sizes and head/eye ratios and shows a compliance checklist, but acceptance is never guaranteed — official requirements can change and a human reviewer may still reject a photo (lighting, expression, glasses, etc.). Use it as guidance, and always check your issuer's current rules.
What sizes can I make?+
US Passport/Visa (2×2 in), UK, EU/Schengen, Canada, China, India, Australia, Japan, plus generic 35×45 mm and 2×2 in — about a dozen high-volume official presets, each exported at 300 DPI with an optional tiled print sheet.
Can I print it myself?+
Yes. Alongside the single photo, IDPhoto exports a tiled print sheet (4×6 in or A4 at 300 DPI) with faint cut guides, so you can print several copies at home or a drugstore photo kiosk and cut them out — far cheaper than paying per set.
Do you track me or show ads?+
By default, no. This build runs zero third-party scripts and a strict Content-Security-Policy. If the site owner later enables lightweight, cookieless Plausible analytics or ads, they are switched on only at deploy time via environment flags — and your photo and face data are still processed entirely on your device, never uploaded, regardless.
